What should I do about severe pain and cracking in my neck? For a little less than a month now I have had severe neck pain. I cracl my neck constantly to relieve tension and pain as gross as that is. I don't want to crack it and I fear I am hurting myself more. I am seeing a doctor in a few days but I don't understand why this is happening. My parents thinki it is growing pains but I could literally crack it all day long if I wanted to (Which I don't) Please help me!

What could be causing my severe neck pain? I've had on going neck pain for many years now. It comes and goes. I've been to the doctor a few years ago and they said arthritis and something similar to the words spine and ossous. I don't remember that one. Now it's been acting up really bad for the past week. It has got to the point where I don't have the strength to hold my head up without severe pain. It radiates down my right arm and shoulder. What can I do to correct a severe neck pain? Sometime yesterday between 8 and 9 AM, I did something to make a crick in my neck. Yesterday, it was merely irritating, miild sharp pain when I moved my neck. Today, it's excruciating. I can't even keep my head up properly and I can barely look down. There aren't any emergency chiropractic clinics that are open today and within walkable distance. I can't afford another hospital ER visit, since I'm already paying off one from when I got a bad virus two months ago. I don't have a regular physician. I tried the local massage college, where students give supervised massages for $25, but I have seven dollars to my name at the moment and they weren't able to bill me. I'm sufficiently mobile thanks to ibuprofen, but the problem isn't going away. It doesn't seem to be a muscle cramp. Hot/cold packs aren't helping one bit. I can't breath normally because my lungs are putting pressure on the injury. And trying to lay down to sleep last night only appears to have made it worse. As it turns out, an emergency physician confirmed it is a muscle cramp, though more severe than others I've had. Thanks for the responses.

Is it normal to have severe neck pain/discomfort with strep throat? I went to the doctor Tuesday night and took my first dose of antibiotics. I had a fever of 103.7 for about six hours straight. My second and third dose was Wednesday, still have low grade fever, but now my neck hurts and my throat is just as bad if not worse. Any suggestion/answers??

Any helpful advice for severe neck pain with migraines? I'm a naturally tense person and I also suffer from migraines. For the past few months, neck pain has also worked its way in with and in between the migraines. I've been to a general practitioner and a neurologist and all they could give me was some muscle relaxers that don't really do anything (we've already ruled out their being regular tension headaches). I'm scheduled for a CT scan next month, but in the meantime is there any sort of routine/technique that can subside the pain (besides Vikadin and Vikaprofin) before we can get a more accurate diagnosis?

Head cold with severe neck pain? It started 6 days ago (Sat) with severe pain in the upper back of my throat and felt like it went up into my sinuses (more so on the left side) Then my neck felt a little kinky (left side). The next day headache, fever (100.6), coughing - very congested, raspy voice. Neck pain became worse inside and out, like the neck pain was progressing along with the head cold. Is it possible for sinuses in the neck and head to "fill up" with mucus? The pressure in the left side of my head and ear became unbearable do to the pain that now radiated from my neck, up the back of the left side of my head and out my left ear. I can't bear anything touching my head. I went to the doctor as a walk-in the next morning (Tues) and they did a strep test and mono test and gave me a penicillin shot. Later that day I had difficulty swallowing and was told me to go to the emergency room at the hospital. The ER Doc checked me out, said neither my throat or left ear inside was red or inflamed, I had a low grade fever at this point (99.6) (I had taken tylenol 1.5 hrs prior). I asked him if it could be menningitis and he said "we could check for that". That test came back negative. He suggested I had "some kind of virus". What could this be? 6 days later, my neck is still stiff, still coughing up phlem, throat pain inside not as bad, but still can't swallow well. I wonder if backed up mucus/phlem in my glands would cause all this... Is something else going on that it would last this long? (I am now on medicine -4 days now). How can every test come back "normal" and I feel so bad?

Please Help. Severe neck pain!? This morning when i woke up, i turned my head to the right and felt/heard a popping nose on the left side of me neck. About 1 minute after i had severe pain on the left side of my neck and stiffness on the back of my neck. Now i can't turn my head left without being in pain and my head is now tilted to the right and feels really stiff. I can point my head up and down without a problem though. And i havent had any problems with my neck before. I have also been taking pain killers and muscle cream, and a heatpad on my neck. It doesn't seem to be doing much, any other ideas? How long do you think my neck will take to heal? because i have school on monday. Im 16 years old btw.

Causes and treatments for severe neck pain? My wife has been experiencing severe pain in her neck and shoulders for more than 4 months. The pain also radiates down both arms at times. She has had an MRI of her neck which showed some mild disc space narrowing, some bone spurs, a couple of mildly bulged disc and an annular tear. She has seen a Pain Management Doctor who gave her injections in her neck to try to relieve her pain. However this did not help and the doctors feels that something else must be going on, because the results of the MRI don't show anything significant enough to cause the level of pain my wife is experiencing. If there is anyone out there who has endured something similar, would you please let us know what was found and how it has been treated

Stroke? 29 year old, swollen ankles, numb right hand (today) severe migraine/neck pain last week.? History of HBP and migraine; no meds now; previously took Percocet and Lortab for back pain. Very high stress. Staph infection 1 mo. ago. Seemingly healthy before that except for blood pressure control problem. ER did blood work and CT last week when she had migrain/stiff neck with severe pain, vomiting. Negative for meningitis or anything else obvious. Given staydol and either demoral or dilauded injections. Sent home with no dx. Fainted in grocery last week, seen in ER - sent home. Numbness in hand started this a.m. (9/10).

Could the bacteria from an untreated abcessed tooth cause severe neck pain and breathing problems? I've had an abcessed tooth for about a year. It seems to come and go. There is not a lot of pain now.. there was at first.. but, sometimes the gum will 'bubble' up in a small place. I know it's needing to be repaired, I just haven't had the money to have it done.. nor do I have insurance. Anyway, a couple of months after I noticed my tooth was abcessed, I started having some labored breathing and neck pain. Severe Neck pain but doctors cant find anything? For like 5 months now ive been having severe lower back pain where bruises even started to appear in the spots with the most pain. A few weeks ago ive developed really painful neck pains that feel like someones literally dragging a razor across the back of my neck. ive thought many times perhaps i had a cut somehow but theres nothing there. I also have been suffering from severe headaches that can last weeks. its usually on the left side of my head, which just so happens to be the same side where i have the most pain in my neck and lower back. i went tothe hospital and they did a ct scan and said they found nothing at all. they said they arnt sure what could be wrong. i went a week ago...they gave me Soma and Naproxin for the pain and hopes that the soma will sooth the pain. So liek, ive already tried all kinds of painrelievers and stuf ffor the headaches and neckpain and they would work for a few times then stop working and id have to switch brands. ive run out of brands to try that arnt literally like 10 dollars for a few pills. The soma only makes me slightly dizzy and sometimes it doesnt even do a thing. the naproxen also doesnt do a thing for it except make me feel really sick even when i eat a big meal. the pain still goes on even when "drugged up". i dont have a real doctor, i have medicaid and they keep moving me around. i dont even have a worker right now because she got switched out. They said come back in 3 days if nothing helps but i have no transportation and i cant easily efford a cab back and forth. what could the cause of this pain me? right now it feels like someones stabbed an electrc prob into my brain =( man it hurts so much. this headache started yesterday and will prolly last at least 7 days. my last headache was a record breaker at 16 days. thanks. i forgot to add that i have nail patella syndrome and ive had alot of pains from it but nothing like this. in hs i was told i might have scoliosis but my mother wouldnt take me to be further evaluated. could that be coming back to haunt me?

Severe Neck pain on left side, comes on suddenly, what's going on? A while ago I had such severe neck pain on my left side, it's on the lower base of my neck and radiates down to my shoulder blade and sometimes to my collar bone. Before I thought it was only because I slept wrong, but just now I was only watching a move; I was perfectly fine until all of a sudden I couldn't look down. Now as I try I can't look left or right without pain shooting through my neck. Usually when I do have this pain, the back base of my neck hardens to such a point it feels like marble is lodged inside my skin. And the other side of my neck is perfectly fine. What's going on? I'm 13, this all comes on so suddenly. My mum has severe back pain, did I inherit something? Going to a doctor is not the answer for me at the moment, so please help me in any way? Or at least answer what's going on with me?

Is severe neck pain common with tonsillitis/strep throat? I have had a cold for about 2 weeks now. On Saturday I woke up with severe chills, high fever, cough, congestion, body aches, and I was extremely cold all day. I treated it with DayQuil and Theraflu. It did help somewhat, but it was very short lived. That night and the night before I was very restless and couldn't sleep. I woke up the next morning with a very sore throat and later that evening developed an extremely sore/stiff neck. My head also hurt tremendously, especially when I coughed or bent over. The next day the neck pain was worse and I called my doctor, but they were booked. Later I decided that I couldn't handle it any longer and went to the ER. The doctor said that my tonsils were covered with puss and I had tonsillitis. He also noted that there was some wheezing and a hard barking cough that sounded like bronchitis. He gave me some cough medicine, 4 500 mg amoxycillin and 400 mg ibuprofen. He also presribed 500 mg amoxycillin 3x per day for 10 days, cough/congestion syrup with codeine and an albuterol inhaler. He came in wanting to do a strep test, but the nurse had already given me antibiotics so he said that since my throat was already coated with antibiotics he couldn't rely on the test. My neck still hurts horribly and neither tylenol or motrin even touch the pain. What else can I do to relieve the pain? Apparently the ER doctor believed it to be bacterial since he prescribed antibiotics, and he seems to think that the tonsillitis is secondary to a severe cold, not related to it since he also suspected strep which I know usually does not present with cold/flu symptoms. But my concern is the neck pain. Is it common with tonsillitis and strep throat? Should I be worried about something else? I am supposed to follow up with my doctor on Thursday, but I am worried and want some answers or opinions. This neck pain is just unbearable! the pain is on the sides and back of my neck radiating towards my head and shoulders. The pain makes it intolerable to turn my head very far to either side or downward. I pretty much have to keep it straight. It still hurts, but not nearly as bad as if I try to move it.

Severe Neck & Shoulder Pain? I woke up yesterday morning with severe neck pain and pain in between my shoulder blades. This is a searing, sharp pain, very different than the usual musle stiffness I get. Massage and a hot shower only aggravated it. I am now on day 2 and I woke up and the pain seems to be radiating down the middle of my back along my spinal cord and up along the middle of my neck into my head. It is based on the left side and at this point I cant turn my head to the side without moving my whole upper body. Lifting my left arm is also quite painful because of the shoulder pain. Does anyone have any idea what this could be ? I do get migraines and neck stiffness but this is something very different than I have ever felt before. I am an otherwise healthy 27 year old female.

Severe head and neck pain? I was in a car accident a month ago were someone rear-ended me. All I had at first was mild neck pain so I went to a Chiropractor. A couple days following the accident I noticed that whenever I touched the back of my head it hurt. After less than a month of going to the Chiropractor my neck and head pain started to increase. So I called my neurologist and he ordered an MRI of the c spine. And I’m waiting for the results. My symptoms are: Severe neck pain w/ stiffness and occasional numbness, pain at bass of skull were head and neck meet, head pain - when pressure is put on back of head ex. lying down or scratching head. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Or is anyone out there in the medical field and have an idea of what could be wrong?

Severe Neck Pain and Congestion? Can anyone offer any thoughts? For the past month I have had EXCRUCIATING neck pain. So severe that I can't sleep or move my head. Its right at the base of my neck in the back where my skull meets my neck. When its at its worst I feel a big swollen lump back there. Incidentally I have also had a weird congestion in my throat for about the same time. No pain in the usual sinuses but a constant frog in my throat and crackly cough. I have also felt very fatigued lately and unable to focus. Don't know if these things are related or not. But the next pain is fierce! I want to get out of this funk I am in. severe neck pain, headache and swollen occipital lymph nodes...? About 10 days ago I woke up in the middle of the night with some neck pain. I thought I had just slept on it wrong. But it has gotten worse, not better. Now I have severe neck/head pain where the base of my skull meets my neck, the lymph nodes that are there feel swollen and are VERY painful even when I apply light pressure. This pain has been giving me headaches, mostly migraines every day. I have a Dr. appt. later today but I want to see if anyone has had anything like this or know what it might be. I have to go to a military Dr. who is actually just a physicians assistant. While I like him for everyday stuff, none of them are really good with wierd things and I'd like to go in with some ideas of what it might be. Well, I just got back from the doctor - its mastoiditis. She said I probably had an ear infection and didn't know it, and it spread to the mastoid (a bone behind the ear, at the base of the neck). This is causing my lymph nodes to be swollen and sore. The pain has gotten much worse, its excruciating now. My dr. gave me antibiotics (its bacterial) to clear up the infection, a strong anti-inflamitory to help with the swelling and codine for the pain. She said I should feel better in a few days. Now I wish I had gone sooner, its been bothering me for almost 2 weeks but just got worse in the last day.

I've been having severe neck pain..? I've been having severe neck pain for 5 months now. I've been to the doctor numerous times and she keeps telling me that I have to much stress. I don't understand. I know that I do not have stress. The pain is getting worse and worse. There are days that I can't even move my neck. I've also been getting shooting pains for the middle of my neck up to mu head and my right hand has been tingling and numbs once in awhile. I went back to my physician and told her that I wanted a MRI or a CT scan or something done to see what is going on. She told me that I have to wait for an approval from my insurance in order to get one and I still haven't been approved. I've been taking tylenol for the pain and have been alternating heat and ice packs, but it doesn't seem to help.. I don't know what to do or what it could be?

Basically the doctors said unless it's contractions she should not panic and call as she was in the hospital for 2 days which she came home yesterday. Everything was ok but they stopped the labor because they said it was too soon, also they never knew he was actually a few weeks more ahead then they thought. Other then that he has moved down into her pelvic area, well she says right in her pelvis, and they did confirm he is sitting low. Now I am pretty sure all that craziness has to do with her neck pain as he has no more room to move and it's uncomfortable for her. What can she do?

I HAVE SEEN 3 DOCTORS ABOUT THIS AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LIGUAL TONSILITIS BY AN ENT WHO PUT THOSE TUBE CAMERAS DOWN MY NOSE INTO MY THROAT...I AM LIVING AT FORT RICHARDSON,ALASKA.(HUBBY IS IN THE ARMY) LIVING ON A MILTARY BASE AND HAVING MILITARY INSURANCE I SOMETIMES FEEL PEOPLE DONT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY...I FEEL NO ONES LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE AND JUST FILLING ME WITH MEDS I DONT NEED BECAUSE THEY DONT WORK...HAVE BEEN IN THE ER FOR THESE SYMPTOMS AS THEY GET WORSE 5-6TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. I was 19 at the time and was scared and didn't realize what had really happened. Now I am suffering for it. I don't have the money to go to the chiro or to therapy. Shoulder and neck pain + severe headaches? I have a very stressful lifestyle which i can not change at this time. As a result, by shoulders and upper back are rock solid and sometimes painful lumps appear on my shoulder blades in response to very stressful situations. I am in constant discomfort and sometimes real pain. I am getting regular headaches which sometimes respond to applying pressure to a specific area of my shoulders (back). If i lie on my back, my shoulders will not touch the floor, and my posture is being increasingly affected. I am seeing a chiropractor and doing stretching exercises. Has anyone any suggestions of what else i can do to improve the pain and the other physical symptoms? Thanks

I am having severe neck pain on the right side kind of behind my ear lobe....? It came on very sudden. Last night it was just kind of like a kink in my neck from sleeping wrong. Throughout the day it has gotten worse and worse. I can't turn my head either direction more than 2-3 inches. When I bend over and stand back up it throbs. And it's sore to the touch. It doesn't hurt when I look down but kills when I look up. I can even feel it when I swallow but it doesn't hurt up front at all. It's not in the same area where you feel your pulse. Severe upper back and neck pain that started last night? I work as a teller in a credit union and yesterday at work my middle upper back into my neck started hurting a little. It was just a dull steady pain. Although, when i woke up this morning the pain was horrible. It's like on my spine and in between my shoulder blades and runs into my neck. Upper Back tattoo and now severe neck pain......? I had a tattoo done nearly 2 weeks ago now, and thought it was doing great. The scabs had gone and all was well. On Tuesday (it is now Thursday morning) I started to get a sore neck and shoulders. I am not totally unmovable with the neck. It is killing me. My question is do you think it could be caused by an infection from the tattoo, or maybe muscle tenderness etc. I have never experienced this kind of pain expect when I was in an accident over 10 years ago. I get a severe pain in my left neck and shoulder when walking for extended distances? I get a pain in my left neck and shoulder when I walk for 5 minutes or more. It can be casued by dancing and usually takes the same amount of time to start hurting. Some activities dont seem to induce the pain, for example rowing is typically pain free. But cycling causes pain. It pains as if the head is very heavy and the neck is not able to support it. She just can't find a suitable position to put her neck at rest in the night. The chiropractor is giving very slow treatment. I need to know from people who are experiencing the same. Is there a quick fix remedy. Will a neck collar help? Or any particular pillow? I have already ordered the roll pillow for putting under the neck. Is the wedge thing better for relieving pain? Please guide.
