Occupational Therapy Jobs Knowledge Base
Any Occupational or physical therapy aides out there? How did you get your jobs? How old do you have to be and what is a typical day like? What do you do and do you like your jobs? Being an aide, do it make you want to go all the way and become either a physical therapist or occupational therapist? I need some advice because I am thinking about getting a job as an occupational therapy aide or physical therapy aide.
What are good part-time jobs for students interested in occupational therapy? I am currently a high school junior and I am wanting to go to college to become an occupational therapist. I will be doing some shadowing this coming summer, but I am also looking for a part-time job that would be good for me. What type of jobs should I look for since I would like to become an occupational therapist? Thank you so much!
What jobs can an Occupational Therapist or OT assistant get? I have an assignment that asks me to bring in job ads. The jobs ads have to be jobs for an Occupational Therapist or OT assistant. BUT the job ad cannot say it is "for an OT" The job title needs to be something else (like medical care manager). Like the manager job says that an Occupation Therapist Assistant can have that job without practicing occupational therapy. Can anyone help?
How difficult is the cousework for Occupational Therapy? I am going to be a freshman in college next year, and I'm very interested in occupational therapy. I have job shadowed multiple therapists, and my aunt (who is one) has answered many of my questions. One thing I'm not sure of is how hard the college classes will be leading up to OT school. I'm not a genius in physics or anatomy, so will it be very difficult? If anyone has taken classes required for OT, please give me your input! Thanks.
Is occupational therapy a good field? I am planning to go back to school and I would like to pursue a masters of science in Occupational Therapy. Even though I have an undergraduate degree in Information systems Management can I obtain a masters of science in occupational therapy. Is this a great choice? And are there a lot of jobs for occupational therapist?
Occupational therapy aide job outlook? I want to find a degree that I can finish as soon as possible to get into the work force and make a living. The programs for occupational therapy seem to get me there the quickest. I've done my research, and it seems like something I could enjoy doing for the rest of my life. Can anyone tell me (particularly occupational therapist assistants) of your experience on the job and what it took to get you there? Thanks!
Will I be able to get my first occupational therapy job 2/3 years after qualifying? If anyone could give me some serious answers I would be very grateful! I have just qualified as an occupational therapist and registered in the UK (July 2008). I randomly applied for lots of jobs after uni (there were and still are no OT jobs available in my area) and have been offered a job with a major airline as cabin crew! A very different line of work! I am unsure of whether to do this for a couple of years, as it sounds fun, and if this decision will leave me struggling to get a newly qualified post as an occupational therapist down the line... If I do go for the OT route straight away and don't join the airline I am planning to gain employment in Australia and move there. There are jobs with Queensland Health for newly qualified OT's who want to work in mental health, and they will be recruiting lots of staff until 2011. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks! x
occupational therapy assistant job description? what exactly do they do ? where do they work ? how many years of college does it require ? anyone who is an occupational therapy assistant or is majoring in it can you pllease inform me more about it :) thank you.
Occupational Therapy ? I've been thinking about majoring in occupational therapy are there any OT's out there that can explain to me what the job is like? And how are the hours like working as a OT.
Occupational Therapy (Job Shadowing)? Hi, I've never shadowed anyone before, but am required to before applying to most occupational therapy programs. Does anyone have an opinion on what setting would give me the best view of the profession? I was looking into hospital as well as a nursing home and children's center. I also know that I can't pitch in with any direct care, but is there a way to help the therapist while there instead of just standing around and watching the entire time? I need at least 40 hours experience and I'd rather not just stand around the entire time.
Which is the right job for me: occupational therapy or physical therapy? I am a certified massage therapist. I enjoy helping others, but want to be able to do more. Frustrated that I can't offer more tips on how to manage their health. HOWEVER, I am also very creative, love helping others reach their full potential. If I can't be creative, I'd be dissatisfied.
What should I do for career? occupational or massage therapy? I have a degree in occupational therapy but haven't done that in 6 years. I currently am learning massage therapy and seem to like that. I never did like Occupational Therapy because I could not see how it would benefit people, and feel that it really is rather worthless. I do see that massage therapy greatly helps people physically and relieves stress. The problem is that Occupational Therapy may have more job stability because insurance and medicare pay the bills, and would be easier physically. (more stressful mentally, because of the paperwork.) So, the question is, should I go back and try to do Occupational Therapy for the money and benefits, and less physical stress (working for a company), but feel mental anguish, or should I try and do massage therapy, and possibly tire out physically, but then have the ability to work on my own. Also I am that young anymore, but do not have any retirement pension, and little money saved up. What to do? Please help.
To anyone involved w/ occupational therapy: What is the nature of occupational therapy? I'd like to hear about the specific duties of occupational therapists, what the job market is really like, and if occupational therapists find the career rewarding. Also, what kind of traits make a person a good occupational therapist? (I am thinking of enrolling in an occupational therapy program after I graduate, and I would like to find out the information I can't obtain from the Occupational Outlook Handbook.) Thank you!
What is the difference between occupational therapy and rehabilitation counseling? I work in the field of developmental disabilities, and I love my job, but it just doesn't pay enough to support my family. I am looking into getting my Masters to be an occupational therapist or rehabilitation counselor, but I want to really understand what these jobs entail in the day-to-day. I have a better grasp on occupational therapy than rehab counseling. Can anyone help me?
what are the different jobs in therapy? i need a detailed synop of the different therapy jobs. physical vs occupational vs recreational. job availabilities, salaries, how long school is for each, and anything else. thanks
What are some funny Occupational Therapy quotes? What are funny Occupational Therapy quotes? I would like some funny quotes/statements on what people think Occupational Therapy is or what Occupational Therapist do. Ex. OT's work with helping people feel better after losing their jobs.
Has anyone ever studied Occupational Therapy and has some advice about the job? I want to go to university next year and I am weighing up my options. The two courses I cannot choose bewteen is Occupational Therapy and Criminal Justice. Just wondering if anyone has studied Occupational Therapy and can give me some insight into the position???
Can I major in education and fulfill requirements for entry into occupational therapy school or dental school? I really would like to get into physical therapy, occupational therapy, or dental school whenever I complete my bachelor's degree, however I do not want to major in biology or the hard sciences because I would not be able to get many jobs with a bachelor's degree in those majors. I have been told that I can complete any major and get the requirements. I want to know if this route will take longer or be a little harder because I would have to satisfy grad school requirements and my bachelor's degree requirements. Anyone out there that have actually did this, anyone know anything about this route. Any feedback would be appreciated.
occupational therapy? anyone who is an occupational therapist or those who know what that is, can i get info based on what the job is like? and the demand for it? will it be better if an occupational therapist worked in a hospital or drive to people's homes? etc... please?
Would you find Occupational Therapy an enjoyable and stimulating career? I am almost done my Bachelor's degree in Human Development (I'll be graduating in December from Penn State). I have looked at a couple of options for what to pursue for my masters degree. I know I will work in either education or healthcare as I find them spectacular areas with good job security and consider these fields rewarding. Do you think occupational therapy would be a good choice for a career? Thanks much, my other idea is school counselor probably at the elementary level.
How can a person receive Occupational Therapy? I was diagnosed with a learning disability when I was a child, and for the most part, you could never tell today. However, my fine motor skills are seriously impaired (like I am 22 and still sometimes have problems buttoning my pants and cutting meat). How do I get occupational therapy...I think it would benefit me. I am in my last year of college and need to gain some fine motor skills to live on my own and to perform my job adequetly (I will be a Special Education teacher in May). Like I said, all my other areas are fine. Do I need a refferral from my doctor, or will neuropsychologist do? Thanks.

What should I major in if I want to get into occupational therapy school, other than Biology or occupational t I want to get into occupational therapy school after I get my undergraduate degree. I do not want to major in Biology and there are no schools that offer occupational therapy as a bachelor's degree within a 300 mile radius. I want to know if there are any alternatives that would let me get my prerequisites/preparation? Also, is there a major I could major in and get my prerequisites and have a wide variety of job opportunities without a master's degree?
Is occupational therapy a hands-on job? I am a psychology major doing my undergrad. I recently found out about occupational therapy and am very interested, but there are a couple of things holding me back. 1) I have hyperhidrosis so if occupational therapy is hands-on, I am going to need to scrap the idea. 2) I am also very shy in front of groups so I would like to know if leading group therapy sessions is common? Is public speaking part of the job (teaching, etc)? Helping stroke victims recover and regain abilities is particularly interesting to me. I would like to focus on psychological issues (perhaps eating disorders, mood disorders) more than physical issues due to my condition. Thank you in advance!
I have interest in both Radiology Therapy and Occupational Therapy.? I have interest in both Radiology Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Can anyone explain the difference in terms as job satifcation and longivity in this field? If current therapist reply, it would be greatly appreciated with your given experience in the field. Please do not be shy to tell the truth. Be blunt if needed. I love honest answers. Many thanks!!!
What do careers in occupational therapy entail? As a high school student im just exploring my options, and it always seemed like something i'd like. What schooling is required? What is a typical job description? Is it a growing or stable field?
occupational therapy return to practice? Does anybody know where I can find a source of formal study for my return to practice? I need to study from home so it would have to be distance learning / e-learning etc as i have a part time job and a baby. I can study anything as long as it is related to Occupational therapy.
Is it possible to get a masters in occupational therapy while working full time? Unfortunately I'm in one of those positions where I cannot afford to quit my job (or even go part-time) to go back to school. And all the OT programs I've checked out appear to need dedicated time. My undergrad degree is no where near the healthcare field so I don't even qualify for the prereqs yet if I were to apply to an OT program. Should I be looking for something else?
I am trying to decide between going into Nursing or Occupational Therapy? Which program is easier to get into? Do they both have long waiting lists to get accepted? This will be a second career change for me so i want to make sure i find something i really enjoy but also has job security. Nursing seems like it may be more stressful. Any insight from students or people working in the field would be so helpful. Thanks!
Can I get into an Occupational Therapy program with a low undergrad GPA? I am taking some science and math classes I need since I got a B.A. degree. I have five years of job related experience working with people with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness. I really want to go into O.T., but with a low GPA it seems hard to get into a good school. I will be getting "A"'s in my pre rec. classes. Is there anything else I can do?
Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistants career? Hi, anybody currently working in the Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistants field? or studying. Details about occupational therapy career? Can somebody tell me what kinds of settings an occupational therapist can work in and what their job is like. Also, do they deal with wounds or blood very often? I really don't like needles and blood, but I want to go into the healthcare field.
Occupational Therapy? (Easy)? I need to interview an occupational therapist, and I don't know any. Best answer will need to provide first and last name (if that's okay.) 1) What inspired you to become an occupational therapist? 2) How long did you have to go to college? Did you have to take any training classes or special courses? 3) Can you picture yourself being an occupational therapist until you are no longer able? 4) How long have you been an occupational therapist? 5) How long have you known that occupational therapy was the right job for you? Has it been a life long dream, or a new found interest? 6) Why is your job important to others? 7) Can you discuss one event where your job made a huge impact on someone else's life? 8) Does your job ever overwhelm you? 9) How many hours do you work on the average week? 10) What hobbies do you have that you tie into your work? (For example, do you draw, and use that to communicate with younger patients?)
Pre-occupational therapy? So i'm currently a nursing student but feel that I will not be able to handle the needles and blood. I am very interested in going into occupational therapy or health promotion/public health. My school offers a degree in psychology and a minor in health. Along with taking the required pre-reqs for a masters in OT (anatomy, sociology etc.) and completing observation hours, do you think I will be qualified to get into Occupational Therapy school? or a job in public health? if you have any information on either of these careers please let me know because the semester is ending soon and I need to decide on my classes for next semester! :(
Dilemma: Occupational Therapy or Psychology Degree? I can't decide which to go for, The one I'm really interested in is psychology but then I'm worried that they are not many employment prospects for psychology graduates unless they have a doctorate. I would like to be a clinical psychologist but don't think I'll have the money for postgraduate school. The easier option would be occupational therapy which would be easy to get a job in..but I'm an academic person and don't think I will find the course challenging at all. What should I do?
Are you can occupational therapy assistant? What do you love about your job? What do you hate about your job? What are the challenges you face in your career? What does your typical day at work look like? What suggestions can you offer someone currently seeking their associate's to become an OTA?
Licensed practical nurse verses occupational therapy assistant? I know these are two completely different jobs, but which would you choose work wise? which one has a better income? or do they run the same? Which one do you believe more stable? and lastly bridging over from LPN to RN VS COTA bridging over to MOT which do you think would be the most difficult? any help greatly appreciated
Occupational Therapy question, how is the field, any burnout??? Is there anyone out there who is an OT and is experiencing burn-out? I was considering this as one field to go into, but it doesn't seem that well known ( whenever someone asks me what i want to be, i have to explain to them what an OT is, what they do, etc.). Also, whenever i look on sites like "Monster" I hardly ever see job openings for this field, they are all openings for Physical Therapy. Any ideas, insights, thoughts?
career in occupational therapy? i'm thinking about pursuing a degree in occupational therapy, however i can't find much information about it online, such as job outlook & salary? the occupational handbook hasn't been updated since like 2006. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos078.htm
are there a lot of art therapy jobs out there? Art therapy has caught my eye but do they get paid well? And are there plenty of jobs available out there? Or should I just stick to going for the occupational therapy position instead? By out there I mean mainly california sorry for not being specific enough.

pre-pharmacy or occupational therapy? If I go back to school should I study pre-pharmacy or occupational therapy. I have a little experence in both and I like them both since I work with people with head injuries at my job. I currently work at a long term residential facility
Occupational Therapy Assistant? I found a local college that is 30 min. away from my house I would love to go for occupational therapy assistant. I was wondering if anyone has gone for this and what they think of it. I know that it is a needed job and they make pretty good money. I also know that they work with people who have physical or mental disabilities to help them gain independence. Now what I am wanting to know is the things they don't tell you, how hard are the classes? Could I still have a job and go to school full time for two years? I know the classes include Anatomy, Psychology, English, Normal Human Development, Medical Terminology, Math, and Writing/documentation I am worried about Math because it's not my strongest subject. I love English and Writting but I have only took standard classes in High School. Do you think I will strugle with this?

Which degree MS Clinical Psychology or MS Occupational Therapy? I am trying to decide between these two choices. They are both interesting and schooling will be more expensive for OT. Who has the following degrees and works in the fields? Where? and what is job satisfaction like? Which one is a better choice to work well into retirement age. Thank you.
