It kind of depends, do you want to be an athletic trainer for a sports team? that takes going to college and then getting a masters degree and becoming an ATC. or are you thinking more of a personal trainer who trains people for sports? That you can do by taking courses for certifications. Check out www.acsm.org for that kind of stuff. And you can do any of that in california
