  2. Use ice on them for fifteen to twenty minutes per hour if possible. Some light stretching would also be beneficial. As soon as the pain stops start some light resistance work. Keep the resistance factor very light at five pounds. This should be light enough to help rebuild the fibers involved. Work on form as it is more important than the weight factor. As things improve slowly work back to the level before the injury. I personally recommend the use of super slow movements as they are very much less likely to injure you. This is where the movement is done in two phases. The concentric phase is for five seconds while the eccentric is ten seconds. The concentric phase is where one is doing the movement to shorten the muscle. The eccentric phase is where the muscle is lengthened. This is the part of a movement that builds the most strength. A lighter weight is used for it will work the muscle entirely and the light resistance factor helps the muscle actually to get stronger as it stresses it throughout the entire range of motion. Make sure that you thoroughly warm up before starting to lift and stretch post exercise. The use of ice post exercise is also beneficial.
