What is the best medicine to take for back pain?
I don't have insurance but my lower back on the right about 3 inches out from my spine, keeps hurting. It hurts most after I have been sitting. I have been taking motrin a lot but it just seems to lower the pain but it still hurts. Anything better?

- When the pain gets bad enough, you will see a physician, insurance or not. If it is something that can be made worse by inattention, you will be sorry you didn't go yesterday.
- if it is a muscle, use voltarine cream but i dont think it is a muscle, u might have carried something heavy with out bending ur knees,if so u should c a doctor if it is because of cold, try to put warm towels on the pain it may help good luck
- You can take Flexeril. It's a rx, but it's $4/month or $10 for 3 months from Walmart.
- From the position ,as it is away from the spine, it appears to be a pain arising from the muscle. One cannot say what the best drug is because the effect of a drug may vary from patient to patient due to factors like age, consumption of alcohol etc. But in general I can give the generic names of some drugs. The trade names vary. At the same time you should take other steps like 1. Fomenting with hot water, 2.Application of gels like Voltaren gel ( Diclofenac gel) 3. Application of infra red heat ( there are devices for home use) About the drugs I will give some generic names along with their brand names (in the British market) a. Diclofenac Sodium tablets (50 mg. three times] Brand--Voltaren b. Ibufropen 400 mg 3 times Brand --Brufen c.Celecoxib 200 mg twice Brand - Celebrex One of these three suits you. The last one is 'stronger ' than the rest .
